Anna and John began their wedding day separately at the hotel, surrounded by their families and wedding party as everyone got ready for the day ahead.

Getting everyone, and everything, where it needed to be was actually one of Anna’s biggest concerns leading up to the wedding. Between transporting wedding-day details to the hotel and venue and making sure everyone stayed on schedule, there were plenty of moving pieces to coordinate.

Their solution was preparation. Anna created a detailed timeline and distributed it to their wedding party ahead of time, including the general schedule, photo lists, and individual tasks. She said it helped everyone understand what was happening and prevented confronting thousands of questions.

Her advice to other couples is simple: create the timeline, make it detailed, and make sure the people who need it actually have it.

In hindsight, Anna said she would have scheduled more of their family photos at the hotel. Separating some of those portraits earlier in the day would have given them even more time to enjoy The Mansion once they arrived. It’s a great example of why a wedding timeline isn’t just about fitting everything in. It’s also about deciding where you most want to spend your time.

A First Look in the Gardens

Their concierge and staff are on top of everything, so there’s no running around trying to find the right person or figure out what happens next. They handle the flow of the day like a well-oiled machine, including managing arriving guests in a way that keeps everyone comfortable while giving the couple the space they need before the ceremony.

The one thing I encourage couples to plan carefully around is the venue’s access time. The Mansion hosts two weddings each day, and for the later ceremony, couples are typically able to arrive just one hour before the ceremony begins. The staff makes that hour run remarkably smoothly, but it still goes very quickly, especially when you’re hoping to fit in a first look, wedding party or family photos, and portraits around the property. A thoughtful photography timeline and deciding what can be completed at the hotel beforehand can make a huge difference in how much of that hour you get to spend actually enjoying the grounds.

An Outdoor Ceremony at The Mansion on Main Street

With the temperature dropping and the smoky skies finally clearing, Anna and John were able to have the outdoor wedding day they had hoped for.

The landscaped grounds and water features at The Mansion on Main Street created an elegant setting for their ceremony while still fitting the simplicity they wanted for the day. Surrounded by their family and friends, Anna and John exchanged the vows that would become another of their favorite memories.

One of my favorite things about Anna and John’s reflections on their wedding is that what surprised them most wasn’t something unexpected during the reception or being more nervous than they anticipated.

It was how smoothly everything went.

There is a lot happening behind the scenes of any wedding day, and Anna had understandably been anxious about getting everything to the right places and keeping everyone on time. Their preparation gave the people around them the information they needed, while leaving Anna and John more space to actually experience what they had spent so much time planning.

And at the end of it, Anna’s answer about the best decision they made was wonderfully straightforward: having their wedding at The Mansion.

An Elegant Reception at The Mansion on Main Street

Inside, the chandeliers that had initially caught Anna and John’s attention helped set the tone for their reception. Their elegant, simple vision carried into a celebration that still left plenty of room for fun.

And this was one area where they were happy to splurge.

They chose Time Productions for their DJ and incorporated extras including sparklers and a photo booth into the reception. Those choices weren’t simply additional décor or entertainment. They gave guests more ways to participate in the celebration and helped create the energetic reception Anna and John wanted.

We also incorporated a table dash into their reception, giving them a photograph with each table while keeping the experience fast and fun. Anna later mentioned both the photo list and table dash as ways I helped keep photography organized throughout the day.

Once the formalities were finished, the dance floor opened and everyone could simply enjoy the party.

After the wedding, I asked Anna and John to reflect on what it was like working together. Anna described the experience as “amazing” and appreciated that I was punctual, communicative, and made sure we got the photographs they wanted.

She also shared:

That preparation is a huge part of how I approach wedding photography. I don’t want to show up on the wedding day and start asking you to make decisions you could have made weeks earlier. Talking through priorities, creating the photo list, and understanding the timeline beforehand allows me to give direction when it’s useful while leaving room for the moments that simply need to happen.

Knowing Anna and John felt cared for, checked in on, and able to enjoy their wedding while still getting the photographs they wanted means a lot to me.
